More so, cleaning carpets can be quite a hassle if you

spill liquids on them. Imagine your nice beige carpet having red wine spots here and there -

that is enough to drive one crazy!
Re: Olympian Cheryl Bernard is Going Tailgating

Great post, I concur completely and appreciate the time you took to write it. This implies that only the no-chemicals, hypoallergenic cleaning agents are used. This ensures an all natural organic and environmental friendly carpet cleaning. This is definitely the healthier option. A lot of people are allergic to chemical fumes and smells and develop skin allergies or respiratory distress when exposed to it. So if you suffer from any allergies or have children or pets at home then you must opt for green carpet cleaning.

Re: Sub Sign-up

Subs pay the person they are subbing for on a game-by-game basis.

Re: Curler’s Corner: Know Your Role (3/7)

I would like to learn this game. Being ready to shoot by the time the opponent's stone comes to rest makes a huge difference in the pace of the game. It's not hard to get in 8 ends in two hours if everyone is doing that.

Re: Curler’s Corner: Know Your Role (3/7)

Again, very well presented, Alan.

- The first is great technical skill knowlege. There are a couple technical aspects to curling: how to start and stop as you mentioned, coverage of the stone, angle, where to stand, where to start, etc. We will look at posting about technical aspects in a future blog as well. Thanks for the starting point.

- You are very right. A skip will be more aware of if the stone gets caught in a faster channel or not. They may call the sweepers on or off based on this knowledge, but if the team is communicating and the sweepers are aware of the channel existing, the skip may just need to communicate that the stone is in the channel. "Take a look, its in the channel" or if the skip wants them off to allow the stone to curl out of the channel, it comes back to trusting the skip's call of sweeping or off the sweeping. Thank you for the insight and excellent common case of arena curling.

Re: Curler’s Corner: Know Your Role (2/7)

Another good post, Alan. Two random thoughts:

- when you put your broom on the ice to start sweeping, make sure it is not in the line of the rock. If there was any debris on your broom it may get dislodged when your broom hits the ice, and that can kill the shot. If you start your sweeping close to your body and out of the rock's path you can avoid this problem.

- especially in arena games, there may be slick grooves that form during the game - if a rock is travelling in one of these grooves, it will carry much further than if it is a foot to the right or left. The skip may call for weight if they think it is in one of these grooves as it is generally easier to spot from the skip's vantage point than the sweeper's (especially without a center line in the ice).

Re: Curler’s Corner: Know Your Role (1/7)

Oh heck yeah! But something our skips should keep in mind is that just because there is a free guard zone doesn't mean the first two rocks have to be guards all the time. Especially on arena ice (where take-outs are not as easy), getting your stones into the top half of the house early can be a good strategy, especially if you need a big end to catch up.

Re: Curler’s Corner: Know Your Role (1/7)

Good article Alan but I always like to say, "when you win, it's a team effort; when you lose, it's the skip's fault." :-)

Mark
Re: Curler’s Corner: Lead On!

Great article. I was so fortunate, as a new curler, to be being given the opportunity to throw lead. It allowed me to completely focus on fundamentals--balance, aim, weight, rhythm in the hack, etc. Now that my game is starting to develop, and I've thrown in the other positions as well, I'm still thrilled to play lead whenever asked to do so. Well-thrown lead stones are the foundation on which victorious ends are built and that's really rewarding!

Re: Curler’s Corner: Lead On!

Excellent article, Alan. After playing every position except lead in my short curling career, I played lead in the Vacaville Bonspiel. Trying to throw stones in front of the house all weekend presented a much bigger challenge than I ever imagined.
